Unseen: The Armor of God for Kids

So after watching Facing Darkness, at the end of August, my kids decided that they wanted (or needed) to do a Bible Study everyday. Every morning at 6 a.m. to be exact. I was so excited that the kids were so passionate about studying God’s word in depth but I wanted to make sure I found the right study. We had heard such good things about Armor of God Bible Study, that we decided to start on Unseen: The Armor of God for Kids Older Kids Activity Book and just this past week, we completed it!

 

I couldn’t have asked for a better study to kick off our school year!  The book, written by Priscilla Shirer (of War Room), focuses on the verses from Ephesians 6 which tell us, as believers, how we can resist the schemes of the devil.

My kids (ages 10 & 12) were fascinated by this study.  It opened up doors for us to talk about spiritual warfare, prayer, faith, trials, and The Holy Spirit.  The book is composed of 7 lessons – we focused on one lesson a week, but we were able to stretch it out to an everyday study.  One day we might focus on just the memory verse and prayer. Another day we would delve deeper into the Bible verses and Bible stories that were the main focus of the week.  Other days we could either revisit what the kids and I had studied the day before or they could complete some of the written activities in the book.

 

Some of the days, we were studying this, I had my kids use the verse as their copywork.  Sometimes artwork accompanied the writing.

One thing is for certain, this book was a great launching off point for both of my pre-teen kids.  They were able to learn more about how we are to pray, why we need to be in His word, what temptations are, and how to stand in faith.

I learned a lot from the older kid version, but there is a fantastic women’s guide, as well, called, The Armor of God, that you can do side by side the kids version.

The women’s guide goes into a lot more meaty Bible study and draws from things that women face, so it is appropriate for adults.

What I love about the older kids version, is that Priscilla explains in great detail how Paul wrote this during the Ancient Roman Empire and what exactly the armor would have looked like and what it would have been used for.  It gives a perfect visual for tweens, to get a grasp of how we need to cover ourselves with faith, The Holy Spirit, The Word of God, Salvation, the Readiness for the Gospel of Peace, and Righteousness…to resist the flaming arrows of our enemy.

Some of the activities included are word searches, putting verses in order, prayer and Bible journal-ling, figuring out secret codes, & puzzles.  We chose which ones we wanted to do – you can do as many activities (or as little) as you and your kids feel you need!

If you want to include the entire family, they also offer an Unseen: The Armor of God for Kids Younger Kids Activity Book.  Although, we didn’t use this book, I think it probably makes a good addition to this study if you have younger kids participating!
