Make no mistake about it. This is my calling and it is yours. God has called all of us to do His work. He has called all of us to show his love. He has called all of us to share His truth.
Reasons Why We Don’t Live Our Calling
- Fear
- Apathy – {Not being directly affected}
- We don’t think this applies to us {“It’s not my calling”}
- Ignorance – {Not knowing the truth/facts}
- Wrong thinking – {Confusion of how this pertains to the gospel}
- Negative Thinking– {Feeling like the problem is too great “What can I even do?”}
- Feeling of Insignificance – {“I’m just a stay at home mom – I can’t change anything.”}
Rebuke the Lies
Many of us have been there. If we are honest, most of us have thought some or all of these thoughts at one time. Some of you reading this are currently thinking this way. I want to clear somethings up really quickly.
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:37-38
- Fear is not from God (2 Timothy 1:7)
- Wake up!(Rev. 3:2) (Ephesians 6:10-12)
- It is every Christian’s Calling (James 1:27)
- Do not be foolish (Ephesians 5:17)
- Jesus says what we do to “the least of these” we’ve done to Him (Matthew 25:45)
- With God all things are Possible (Luke 18:27)
- It’s not about us it’s about Him (1 Cor. 1:26-30)
Thankfulness for Those Who Have Followed The Call
I’m thankful that so many Christians are doing something. So many who have gone before us – and even those surrounding us right now who are stepping out on faith. Thank you.
Thank you to those who have loved and cared for the orphans, those without families. I sincerely thank you to those who have had compassion on the needy and the poor. And thank you to the friends of mine who have been an example to me.
These faithful followers of Jesus have stepped out in faith and helped the refugees, the poor, the fatherless. They have loved others recklessly. They have served others.
This calling encompasses orphan care, loving the widows, the poor, the least of these. I think of the men and women who have loved my son (who has special needs) and welcomed them into their churches, even when other churches would not have. They’ve shown me compassion when I was in the darkest shadows. Those people who have known their calling is to serve the people who can give nothing in return. So, Thank you.
Thank you from one mom to another. I want to thank you because you have changed lives. Thank you because you have shown others how to live in Faith.
As Charles Mully said during our interview,
“…the love of God… The love that has got no borders, for us to extend to the people. Because when you love people, then you love God. When you love God, we must love the people, and then we’ll make this world a better place here, our future generation for our children will be a better place.”
I think of it like this: Just because we all won’t become missionaries doesn’t mean we aren’t all called to reach the lost. Just because we all aren’t able to adopt, doesn’t mean we don’t have a calling to love the orphans.
Get Back On Track
I’ve found these things to be beneficial in my own life:
PRAY that your eyes will be open to the truth
Keep PRAYING that your heart will break for what breaks His
Furthermore, PRAY that you will be sensitive to the Holy Spirit
1 John 3:18 “Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”
Will you accept the call today to love others as he has loved you? Will you accept the call to not love just by words or talk but as John says, “in deed and in truth?” It is too easy to turn away from the truth, to turn away from the problems of the world. If they aren’t blocking your path, then it is too easy to choose to believe that we are “doing enough”.
Matthew 20:26-28 “… But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
However, there is hope. Just because this seems too big for us to handle, God is the God of the Impossible. He only is asking to be obedient and follow Him. He will do the rest. If God could call one man and through his work rescue over 12,000 orphans from Kenya – then he can use us to save lives, as well. Follow along over the next week as we hear from people who are following God’s call in their life. And remember: “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9
