Welcome to Such A Time As This! I’m Sasha, mama to 7 little ones. My husband and I have been homeschooling for almost 8 years. Our story begins many years ago when our oldest son was diagnosed with special needs including global developmental delay, cerebral palsy, sensory processing disorder and autism. His diagnosis was a slow painful process each part coming one after the next.
As we got a handle on what was happening with our little boy, we then realized our second son who is 22 months younger than his brother, was having trouble with reading and writing. He was diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia at the end of his 2nd grade year.
Through these challenges in our two oldest children we can see God’s grace and mercy and we know that He is leading us through it all. We also have a fun and smiley 10 year old, a very serious 6 year old, a silly and wild 5 year old, a goofy 2 year old and a fun bouncy baby boy. One question I get asked a lot is if we always wanted a big family. No, we didn’t set out to have a large family. Truthfully, God has worked on our hearts over the course of the last 17 years. He has opened us both to the joy of children and submitting to His will for us.
Raising 7 children is not something that comes easy to me – no more than raising a child with severe disabilities does. It is something I have learned one day at a time, one step at a time. Through each minute, each hour sustained by God’s goodness, through my brokenness and my inadequacy, He has shown me His glory and love. The road has not always been easy. In fact, most of the time it is hard and tiring, and yet, joy shines through this journey like the sun.
We have learned that truly, each child is a blessing. We have learned that having a perfect home comes second to raising children who love others and the Lord. Yes, our home is always busy and most of the time loud…but I am truly loving every minute of it. My hands and heart are full. I really hope to encourage you in your life, right where you are and I am so glad you are joining us on this journey! ~~Sasha
