I was recently given the opportunity to review a book called, “Our Family’s Jesse Tree” by Jen Frost from Faith and Fabric. Many of you know that I love to sew and to create through art. My 8 year old daughter is learning to sew, too! I’m constantly on the look out for new opportunities to create, craft and use my sewing machine. So, if you are like me – you are going to love this book.
This is a fun study which goes through Advent and leads up to Christmas day! For each of the 25 days, you will have a short & fun activity, a Bible verse, and an ornament to make. I don’t want to scare anybody away who doesn’t sew – you don’t have to be crafty to use this book! You can actually have the kids paint or color in the pictures – or you can print them out on cardstock and add some ribbon. If you want to sew them – there are detailed instructions included. I think this would be a fun project to work on with my 8 year old as she learns to sew … she loves hands on and this is definitely that.
My Thoughts?
I think this is a very inventive idea for an Advent book. This is perfect for those of you who, like me, have active kids and kids who don’t like to sit still and be quiet for long. I love that it goes through both the Old and New Testament weaving the story of God’s plan for salvation into an Advent study. I love that the kids can be a part of making and creating the ornaments. They can color, they can cut out their ornaments, they can make them out of paper or felt, they can do the other little activity … all while learning the story of God’s love for us.
What’s included?
An activity for young kids, a family devotional, coloring sheet and detailed instructions on ways to make the ornament including a template for sewing.
