My 10 Best Homeschool Items
for the New Homeschooling Parent
Though we’ve been homeschooling for many years, I can still remember some of my very first purchases. We invested in a nice printer and a laminator when we were first starting out. These two purchases proved to be invaluable. No matter what curriculum we used, it seemed we always had a need for these two items. Here is my list of my top 10 best homeschool items for the brand new homeschool mom and dad. (In the spirit of full disclosure, this post does contain affiliate links, which means that I may get a commissions if you decide to purchase anything from the following links. I only recommend products that I use and love myself!)
Laminator – Especially, when our kids were really little, the laminator was utilized a lot. I used this for making games (especially for pre-school – first grade) and laminating important parts of our curriculum that I wanted to last for a long time.
Laser Printer – This was one of our first investments as we ventured into the world of homeschooling. We print a lot of documents: notebooking, copywork, Bible verses, math practice sheets, schedules, chore charts and more. It really helps having a fast and proficient printer to work with!
Printer Paper – We seem to need an endless supply of printer paper. We use this both for printing and for drawing, writing, and doing notebooking pages.
File Boxes – This has been a more recent investment but I so wish that I had found these earlier. They have made organizing so much easier!
A Bunch of Pencils –No matter how many kids you have, you will be searching for pencils, it seems. So, just get it over with and buy a huge vat of pencils so that when they get lost (as they inevitably will) it won’t be as big of a deal. Try starting your school morning without a proper writing instrument – this is highly annoying and I don’t recommend it!
Electric Pencil Sharpener – The second worst thing to not being able to find a pencil when you are ready to start teaching? Not being able to find one that can write. Enough said.
Bookshelf with Cubbies – We actually have several of these … we use them for giving each kid a place to put their books and also sorting books by subject matter. These can be paired up with the file boxes (see above) to create a really neat and clean look to your school room.
Index Cards – Good for anything from flash cards to spelling words. We use a huge supply of these!
Dry Erase Boards – I loved these when we were teaching handwriting to our Kindergartner and I still love them now. Easily write down copy work, math drills, board work for math and language arts… I could go on and on.
Amazon Prime (Amazon Mom) – This has been a big investment but I love it. Having a large family and homeschooling, it is not easy to run to the store every time I need something. This has been a huge blessing to us. We order almost everything from Amazon Prime and it comes to our door in 1-2 days.
